Waka Kotahi (NZTA) and Auckland Transport notify decisions on North Projects

The North Projects are 13 individual transport projects in high growth areas between Albany and Orewa including Dairy Flat, Redvale, Stillwater, Silverdale, and Wainui East.

The projects comprise a new Rapid Transit Corridor, new rapid transit stations, improvements to State Highway 1, new connections and upgrades to key existing routes.

On 23 January 2025 Waka Kotahi (NZTA) and Auckland Transport notified decisions on Notices of Requirement (NoR 1-13) issued in 2023 for these roading projects. Where there are no appeals against these decisions, designations will be made in the Auckland Unitary Plan to allow the roading projects to be carried out in the future.

Property owners affected by the Notices of Requirement or upcoming Designations have the option of applying to the Environment Court for an order that the requiring authority acquire their property early, at full market value (as if there was no roading project).

There are many benefits in applying for an early acquisition including the ability to choose when you sell your property, avoidance of real estate commissions, having the legal, valuation and other costs associated with the acquisition reimbursed by the requiring authority and additional compensation of up to $50,000.

The lawyers at Grimshaw & Co represent owners applying for early acquisitions. We will guide you through the acquisition process and provide peace of mind everything is taken care of.
